Home EV Charger Installation in Tiverton

The Brief

A homeowner in Tiverton had taken delivery of their first electric car and wanted to charge it properly at home rather than trailing an extension lead to a socket in the garage. They asked SJ Electrical Services for a tidy, safe charge point on the driveway wall, installed and certified so they could charge overnight with complete confidence.

What We Did

Stewart carried out the full installation himself:

• Surveyed the supply: Checked the incoming supply and existing consumer unit to confirm they could take the extra load of a charge point.
• Planned the route: Agreed the neatest position for the charger and the tidiest cable run from the board to the driveway wall.
• Installed a dedicated circuit: Ran a new protected circuit for the charger, with the correct earthing arrangement and protective device for an EV installation.
• Fitted the charge point: Mounted a 7 kW smart charger, cabled it in neatly, and made off all connections to current wiring regulations.
• Tested and certified: Tested the completed installation, provided certification, and set up the charger app.
• Handed over: Showed the homeowner how to schedule charging for cheap overnight hours and left the area clean.

The Result

A neat, safe home charge point the homeowner can rely on every night, with the paperwork to prove it was installed and tested correctly. Charging now happens on cheap overnight electricity instead of at public chargers, and the finished install looks like it belongs on the house.

Job Duration: Completed in a single visit, from first connection to final test and handover.
